The instrument comparator and local storage
Our comparator tool lets you select and compare string instruments directly in your browser. Any comparison you build, including saved comparisons, is stored using your browser's local storage (localStorage) on your own device. This data is never transmitted to us, to any server we operate, or to any third party by the comparator itself. If you clear your browser's site data, switch browsers, or switch devices, saved comparisons will not carry over, because they never left your browser in the first place.
What we do not collect through the comparator
The comparator does not require an account, does not ask for personal information, and does not transmit your selections anywhere. Exporting a comparison (for example, as a JSON file) or printing it happens entirely on your device.
Standard technical logs
Like most websites, the hosting infrastructure that serves Guntings String Guide may automatically record standard technical information, such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, in server logs used for security and reliability purposes. We do not currently combine this information with any advertising or analytics platform.
Contact form and email
If you email us through the details on our Contact page, we retain that correspondence only as needed to respond to you and to maintain a record of corrections or feedback.
